Iraqi Wins First Prize in Katara Quran Recitation Competition in Qatar

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Katara Cultural Village in Qatar announced the winners of the second edition of Katara Prize for Quran Recitation contest.

According to Al-Arab newspaper, the top five winners were selected by an expert panel of judges from about 100 contestants from across the world, Katara said in a statement.

Iraqi reciter Sabah Khalaf won the first place, bagging a cash prize of QR500,000, while the second prize worth QR400,000 went to Mohamed Muftah Basheer from Libya. Mohamed Niyazi from Egypt won the third position, taking home QR300,000. Younus Mohamed Mahra from Syria won the fourth prize worth QR200,000 and the fifth prize of QR100,000 went to Mohammed Azyawi from Morocco.

“Adorn your voice with Quran” was the motto of the second edition of the international Quran competition, which was

aired by Qatar Television since the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan.

Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti, general manager of Katara, said at the closing ceremony that the second edition of the competition had become a big success in terms of participation as well as organization.

He thanked Qatar Television for being an active partner in the contest.

Further, al-Sulaiti said the Katara Prize for Quran Recitation had achieved its goal of promoting and discovering new talents in the learning and recitation of the Quran.

Katara will produce a CD containing full chapters of the Quran with recitations by winners of the first five prizes, he said.

 

The first edition of the Quran competition was held for 21 days in the holy month of Ramadan in 2017 and representatives from Libya, Egypt and Morocco won the first to the third ranks respectively.
