TEHRAN (IQNA) – Turkey’s Directorate of Religious Affairs (Diyanet) distributed 5,000 copies of Quran translation into the Chewa language in Malawi.

According to Anadolu Agency, they were handed out among Muslims in the country, especially students.

It was part of the “Quran Is My Gift” plan of Diyanet aimed at promoting the message of the Quran.

Based on the plan, more than one million copies of the Quran and its translations have been distributed in different countries.

Malawi is a landlocked country in southeastern Africa. According to the Malawi Religion Project run by the University of Pennsylvania, in 2010 approximately 25 percent of the population was Muslim, concentrated mostly in the Southern Region.

Chewa, also known as Nyanja, is the most widely known language of Malawi, spoken mostly in the Central and Southern Regions of that country.
