TEHRAN (IQNA) – Israeli forces detained at least 26 Palestinians, including a former lawmaker, during overnight raids across various parts of the West Bank, said security sources and witnesses.

Israeli military vehicles raided the northern West Bank city of Jenin, where soldiers detained three Palestinians, including a former prisoner, after ransacking their families’ houses.

Israeli forces detained three others, including two former prisoners, during a predawn raid into Jenin refugee camp on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Israeli forces rounded up two Palestinians after storming their families’ houses in Qalqilia city, Wafa news agency reported.

A similar military raid was carried out in Azzun town, east of Qalqilia, resulting in the detention of two Palestinians.

In Tulkarem district, Israeli military vehicles raided Tulkarem city and Nur Shams refugee camp, where soldiers rounded up two Palestinians.

Witnesses confirmed that another Palestinian from the refugee camp was detained as he attempted to pass Annab military checkpoint, east of Tulkarem.

In Ramallah district, Israeli forces detained a Palestinian after breaking into his house in the Ramallah city neighborhood of Ein Misbah.

They also conducted a raid that triggered confrontations in al-Bireh city neighborhood of Umm Ash-Sharayet, resulting in the detention of two Palestinians, including former lawmaker Mohammad Abu Tair, 67.

In Jerusalem (Quds) district, Israeli police rounded up four Palestinians after thoroughly searching their houses in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of al-Eissawiya.

A similar military raid was carried out in Jadira village, northwest of Jerusalem, resulting in the detention of a Palestinian.

In Hebron district, Israeli troops conducted separate raids into Surif town and al-Arroub refugee camp, northwest and north of Hebron, resulting in the detention of three Palestinians.

Two others were rounded up from Bani Naim town, east of Hebron.

Meanwhile, the Palestine Prisoner’s Society confirmed in a press release that Israeli authorities issued administrative detention orders against 38 Palestinians for periods ranging from two to six renewable months.

Administrative detention is the imprisonment of Palestinians without charge or trial at orders from a military commander and on the basis of secret evidence. The order normally goes for six-month periods, indefinitely renewable by Israeli military authorities.

Israeli forces frequently raid Palestinian houses almost on a daily basis across the West Bank on the pretext of searching for “wanted” Palestinians, triggering clashes with residents.

These raids, which take place also in areas under the full control of the Palestinian Authority, are conducted with no need for a search warrant, whenever and wherever the military chooses in keeping with its sweeping arbitrary powers.
