TEHRAN (IQNA) – Qatar will be among the participating countries in the 9th edition of Khartoum international Holy Quran contest, which will be held from January 7 to 13.

Qatar will be represented by Abdulaziz Ahmed Abdul Aziz Ghani, in the Holy Quran memorization category (with full interpretation).

Qatar’s contestant Abdullah Hamad Abu Shareeda won the first place in the 2016 edition of the competition, according to GTimes.

 The 9th edition of Sudan’s international Holy Quran competition will be kick off in Khartoum on Sunday.

It had been slated for January 5 but was postponed to January 7.  

According to Maaz Fatih al-Hajj, an official with the organizing committee, the total number of the participants, who will compete in two separate sections for men and women, will be 70.

He said the contestants will also attend a number of sideline programs, including seminars and cultural events.

According to al-Hajj, the sideline programs will include lectures featuring the miracles of the Quran and Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

Last year, 74 Quran memorizers from 55 countries took part in the competition’s 8th edition.
