Scoring in Khartoum Int’l Quran Award
The main round of the contest, known as the Khartoum International Quran Award, kicked off in the Sudanese capital on Tuesday.
More than 70 Quran memorizers from 51 countries have gathered in Khartoum to compete for the top prize.
Abdul Rashid Ali, the head of the panel of judges, told the contestants before the start of the main round that memorization of the Quran accounts for 70 out of 100 points in scoring.
He said 20 points will be given by the judges to full observation of the rules of Tajweed and 5 points to beauty of voice.
According to Rashid Ali, each mistake made by the contenders will result in receiving negative points.
The 9th edition of the Khartoum International Quran Award will run until Saturday, January 13.
Mohammad Rasoul Takbiri is Iran’s representative in the contest.
Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir is expected to officiate the awarding ceremony, which will be held at al-Sadaqa Hall in Khartoum on Saturday.
