Salem Yusuf from Cambodia was the first Qari to take the podium. He recited verses from Surah Hajj.

It was followed with recitations by the representatives of Croatia, Brunei Darussalam, Morocco, Singapore, and the UK in the men and women sections.

Quran master Seyed Javad Sadat Fatemi, who is accompanying Iranian representative Mokhtar Dehqan at the competition as a guide, told IQNA that, all in all, the performances on Tuesday were by far better than the previous night.

It could be that those going on the stage on the first night failed to show their qualities and skills in full because they were under stress and their performance was affected by the opening ceremony, he said.

Sadat Fatemi described the Indonesian female Qari as the best one performing on Tuesday.

The 60th international Quran competition of Malaysia kicked off at the Putra World Trade Center in Kuala Lumpur on Monday.

Representatives of 56 countries are present at the Quranic event, competing in the categories of Quran memorization and recitation.

On the second night of the contest, a Quran exhibition was held at the venue of the event, showcasing copies of the Holy Quran and translations of the Holy Book in several languages.
