Winners of Quran Competition in Sierra Leone Honored

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Top participants at a competition on Quran memorization, recitation and translation in Sierra Leone were awarded in a ceremony held by the Iranian Cultural Center in Freetown.

 

 

According to the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO), the center organized the competition on May 26 and 27 for different age groups.

Three top participants in the categories of Quran recitation, memorization of the entire Quran and 10 Juzes (parts), memorization of 10 Juzes for children, and translation of the Quran's verses into Sierra Leonean Creole, were awarded in the ceremony.

Addressing the program, Alireza Faramarzi, the Iranian cultural attaché in Freetown, said the main objective of such competitions is to understand the meaning of the verses and act upon them.

Meythamizade, head of Al-Mustafa International University’s branch in Sierra Leone, was another speaker in the ceremony who stressed the necessity of following the Seerah of Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS) in acting upon the Quranic teachings.

Playing a video clip of Tehran’s international Quran competition and recitation of Surah Takwir by Mohammad Javad Foroughi, an eminent Iranian Qari, were also parts of the program.

Sierra Leonean Creole is an English Creole language that is the lingua franca and the de facto national language spoken throughout the West African nation of Sierra Leone.
