Mauritania Announces Winners of Regional Quran Contest

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Representatives of the host country as well as Algeria, Senegal and Ivory Coast won the top titles in Mauritania’s third regional Quran competition this year.

 

According to alakhbar.info website, the closing ceremony of the contest was held in the capital Nouakchott with a number of top officials, including Mauritania’s president and prime minister, in attendance.

According to the panel of judges, Uja Ould Baab from Mauritania won the top prize.

Abdullah Yusuf Saidi from Algeria came second and the third rank went to Mohamed Lee from Senegal.

Representatives of 9 countries in north and northwestern Africa, including Mauritania, Morocco, Algeria, Senegal, Mali, Niger, Mali and Ivory Coast took part in the competition.

It was held on June 10-11 in the categories of Quran memorization and Tajweed recitation.

The contest is annually held under the title of Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz Award, named after Mauritania’s president.

The Islamic Republic of Mauritania is a country in the Maghreb region of western North Africa.

The country’s population is estimated to be about 4 million and virtually all Mauritanians are Muslims.
