Turki al-Sheikh said it will be organized in the holy month of Ramadan (May-June), ajel.sa website reported.
He added that the holy city of Mecca will host the Quranic event.
According to al-Sheikh, the top winner of the contest will be awarded a cash prize of 5 million Saudi rials ($1.4 million).
Those coming second to fourth will be awarded 2, 1 and 0.5 million Saudi rials respectively, he said.
The official went on to say that the Arab country’s Islamic Affairs Ministry and the custodianship of the Two Holy Mosques will supervise the competition.
