TEHRAN (IQNA) – As many as 22 foreign Quran experts will serve in the panels of judges of the 36th International Quran Competition of the Islamic Republic of Iran, an official said.

Hojat-ol-Islam Ali Moqanni, head of the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization’s Quran Competitions Foundation, said 35 Quran scholars from Iran will also be in the panels.

He noted that this year’s contest will be held in different sections for men, women, the visually-impaired, seminary students and school students.

According to the official, the competition for the visually-impaired will have a memorization category only but the others will be held in both recitation and memorization of the Quran.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Taqi Mirzajani, head of the competitions’ technical committee, said the foreign Quran experts are from 13 countries and most of them will be in the panels for the first time.

A total of 600 Quran activists from 81 countries took part in the preliminary stage of the contests, he noted.

Earlier, Hojat-ol-Islam Moqanni had told IQNA that the Imam Khomeini Mosalla (prayer hall) will host the final round of the contests.

He said there will be changes in this year’s competition compared to the previous editions.

For example, he said, it will be held in three rounds, with the preliminary round being held in the form of sending recorded files of the contenders’ Quran recitations to the organizing committee.
