Int’l Quran Competition Kicks Off in Kuwait

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Kuwait’s 10th international Quran contest got underway in the Arab country on Tuesday.

 

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Fahd al-Shula, Kuwait’s Awqaf minister, underlined the sublime status of the Holy Quran and said organizing the contest signifies the importance the government attaches to Quranic activities.

Another speaker was Fareed Emadi, the deputy Awqaf minister, who elaborated on the competition’s programs.

Representatives of 80 countries are reported to be attending the international Quranic event.

Memorization of the entire Quran with Tajweed recitation, memorization of the entire Quran in ten recitation styles, and projects to serve the Quran are among the categories of the contest.

A new category in this year’s edition is the “teenage memorizers” category.

Yemen, Kuwait and Libya, whose representatives have won the highest number of prizes in the previous editions will be honored for their achievements in this year’s competition.

Hamid Reza Moqaddasi from Qom province, Reza Golshahi from Khorasan Razavi and Mohammad Yusuf Darvishi from Qazvin are representing Iran in the contest.

They respectively compete in the categories of Quran recitation, memorization of the entire Quran and Quran memorization for teenagers.
