TEHRAN (IQNA) – Some 12,000 individuals have taken part in this year’s edition of the national Quran contest for Iran’s Judiciary personnel, an official said.

Speaking to IQNA, Hojat-ol-Islam Seyed Mohammad Masoud Masoumi, an official with the Judiciary’s Cultural Deputy, said the 7th edition of the competition has begun and is underway in four stages.

He said some 12,000 personnel of the Judiciary and their family members are taking part in the preliminary stage, almost half of whom are women.

Some 2,000 contenders in this stage of the competition are under 16 years of age, the cleric noted.

He added that final stage, namely the national round, is slated to be held in winter.

Hojat-ol-Islam Masoumi went on to say that those who have won top prizes in previous editions were excluded from this year’s contest.
