Iran, Greece Discuss Holding Quranic Exhibition at Aristotle University

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Iranian cultural attaché in Greece discussed organizing an Iranian Quranic arts and calligraphy exhibition in Greece during a meeting with the officials of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

 

Ali Mohammad Helmi met with Professor P. Skaltsis, the chancellor of the university, and Angeliki Ziaka, Associate Professor of Religion and Islamic Studies and members of the scientific board of the university.

They discussed scholarly and cultural cooperation between the Iranian Cultural Center in Greece and Aristotle University.

Student scholarship, holding Persian language courses, providing references on Islamic and Shia studies, holding academic forums and an Iranian Quranic arts and calligraphy exhibition were among the topics discussed at the meeting.

The Iranian official hailed the cooperation of the university with the center in the past two years and asked for boosting the cooperation in other fields including religious issues and holding interfaith dialogues.

The chancellor of the university highlighted the status of Iran in Islamic studies, law and human sciences and appreciated the center’s attempts to develop mutual cooperation.

Ziaka added that the university welcomes the ideas for more cooperation.

The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (A.U.Th.; often called the Aristotelian University or University of Thessaloniki) is the sixth oldest and among the most highly ranked tertiary education institutions in Greece.

Thessaloniki, also known as Thessalonica, is the second-largest city in Greece, with over 1 million inhabitants in its metropolitan area, and the capital of Greek Macedonia, the administrative region of Central Macedonia and the Decentralized Administration of Macedonia and Thrace.

Thessaloniki is located on the Thermaic Gulf, at the northwest corner of the Aegean Sea. It is Greece's second major economic, industrial, commercial and political center; it is a major transportation hub for Greece and southeastern Europe, notably through the Port of Thessaloniki.

The city is renowned for its festivals, events and vibrant cultural life in general, and is considered to be Greece's cultural capital. Events such as the Thessaloniki International Fair and the Thessaloniki International Film Festival are held annually. Thessaloniki is a popular tourist destination in Greece.
