TEHRAN (IQNA) – A new hall specialized for teaching Quran to different age groups was opened at Al-Azhar Grand Mosque in Cairo, Egypt.

According to Masrawy website, it was opened in a ceremony on July 11 with the participation of Sheikh Hani Odeh, director general of the mosque, Abdul Mun’im Fuad, supervisor of Al-Azhar hall, and a number of Quran teachers.

Addressing the ceremony, Fuad said that the opening of the new hall was ordered by Ahmad Al-Tayyib, Sheikh of Al-Azhar who pays special attention to Quranic activities aiming to disseminate moderation, fight extremism and develop Al-Azhar’s interaction with different groups of people.

Promoting Quran memorization and contemplation in the society and teaching Quran reading and Tajweed principles are among the objectives hoped to be fulfilled by opening of the new hall, he added.

Egypt is a country in North Africa with a population of around 96 million.

Muslims account for around 90 percent of the country’s total population.

Quranic activities are very common in the Muslim-majority Arab country and many of the Muslim world’s top Qaris in the past and present have been Egyptian.
