According to Baghdad Times, the bomb planted in a minibus went off in an area north of the city on Saturday.

The incident took place when the minibus was crossing a security checkpoint at the entrance of Karbala, some 110 km south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, the media office of the Iraqi Joint Operations Command said in a statement.

It said the security forces launched an investigation into the incident, and the minibus' driver is under interrogation.

The security situation in Iraq was dramatically improved after the Iraqi security forces fully defeated the Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorist group militants across the country late in 2017, but sporadic attacks have occurred in the war-ravaged country since.
