TEHRAN (IQNA) – Kuwait is ready to set up booths on the roads leading to the holy city of Karbala during Arbaeen march to offer specialized medical services to pilgrims.

According to Noon news agency, this was announced at a meeting of Sabah Ahmad Jabir Al-Sabah, the Emir of Kuwait, with a delegation of high-ranking officials from Iraq.

The Speaker of the Council of Representatives of Iraq, Mohammad Al-Halbousi led the delegation, which included a number of the council’s members, and tens of Iraqi governors.

The Emir noted that Kuwait’s consulate general has been opened in the holy city of Najaf, adding that Kuwait will participate in setting up booths on the road from Najaf to Karbala to provide services to Arbaeen pilgrims.

Al-Yasiri, governor of Najaf said that the Iraqi delegation also had a meeting with Nawaf Ahmad Jabir Al-Sabah, the Crown Prince of Kuwait and deputy commander of the country’s military.

Development of the city of Najaf and various investment projects for the reconstruction of Iraq were among the themes of the meetings, he added.

Arbaeen comes 40 days after Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of the third Shia Imam, Imam Hussein (AS).

Each year, a huge crowd of Shias flock to Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) is located, to perform mourning rites.

In the past few years, around 20 million pilgrims from all over the world took part in the mourning ceremonies in the Iraqi holy city marking Arbaeen.

Arbaeen will fall on Saturday, October 19 this year.
