TEHRAN (IQNA) – A memorial service for former IRGC Quds Force commander Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani, who was martyred in a US drone strike in Iraq on Friday, will be held on January 8 in Rey, south of Tehran.

The holy shrine of Hazrat Abdul Azim Hassani (AS) will host the program, which will be attended by internationally known Iranian Quran reciters.

The program will start at 2 p.m. local time at the Musalla (public prayer hall) of the holy shrine with Quran recitation by Mohammad Hassan Mowahhedi.

Recitation of Surah Al-Rahman by Mojtaba Mohammadbeigi, another eminent Iranian Qari, elegy recitation by Mojtaba Baqeri and Amir Abbasi, speeches by General Hassanzadeh, an IRGC commander, and by Hojat-ol-Islam Gharavi and Ayatollah Mohammadi Reyshahri, custodian of the holy shrine are other parts of the program.

General Soleimani, deputy commander of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, and a number of their entourage were martyred in the strike by American drones near Baghdad International Airport in the early hours of Friday.

The Pentagon said in a statement on Friday that President Donald Trump had ordered the US military to assassinate the top Iranian commander.

Iran has warned that “harsh revenge” is waiting for the US following the strike that killed the leader of the Quds Force.
