TEHRAN (IQNA) – Mosques in cities and towns across Iran are being prepared for hosting Itikaf ceremonies.

I’tikaf (seclusion for worship in a mosque) will take place on the 13th to 15th of the lunar month of Rajab (March 8-10).

In the northern province of Alborz, some 100 mosques have already been prepared for the spiritual rituals, said Hojat-ol-Islam Mehdi Velayi Barhaq, director general of the province’s Islamic Development Department.

He added that registration for attending Itikaf will start next week and run for four days.

According to the cleric, the programs for participants in the three-day Itikaf will include choral recitation of the Quran, prayer recitations, and religious speeches.

Itikaf is a form of worship performed by staying in a mosque for a certain time.

It is a tradition which has been in Islam from the first days of the Revelation.
