TEHRAN (IQNA) – The secretary General of the Muslim World League condemned recent remarks against Islam made by French President Emmanuel Macron.

Speaking in a televised interview, Muhammad bin Abdul Karim Issa said Islam is a great Divine religion that will not be undermined by some people’s statements, Slaati website reported.

He dismissed Macron’s claim of link between Islam and extremism, saying Muslim countries, themselves, have been the most affected by extremism.

Earlier this month, Macron unveiled a plan to defend France’s secular values against what he labeled as “Islamist radicalism” and claimed that the religion was “in crisis” all over the world.

Macron’s comments came less than a month after Muslim protesters censured Charlie Hebdo, a French weekly satirical magazine, for its recent reprinting of blasphemous caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
