TEHRAN (IQNA) – Head of Iran’s Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization offered condolences over the death of Malaysia’s Islamic Development Department (Jakim) director-general Paimuzi Yahya.

In a message to Minister of Religious Affairs of Malaysia Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri, Hojat-ol-Islam Seyed Mehdi Khamoushi expressed his sympathies over the loss of the senior official.

He also prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace.

Paimuzi passed away at the age of 50 on Thursday. He had tested negative for COVID-19 and was hospitalized on Oct 6.

Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin described his demise as a loss to the South East Asian country and Islamic institutions.

Born in Terengganu, Paimuzi held a double degree from Universiti Malaya, including one in Sharia law.

He joined the civil service in 1986 at the Islamic Affairs Department under the Prime Minister’s Office.
