TEHRAN (IQNA) – Tehran Interim Friday Prayer Leader Hojat-ol-Islam Haj Ali Akbari says that enemies of Islam have plans for changing the identity of Muslim Ummah.

After some 20 months of hiatus, Friday prayers was held in the Iranian capital of Tehran as COVID-19 restrictions have been eased.

Addressing the prayers, Haj Ali Akbari said that the issue of unity is not a trivial issue but a strategy. His remarks come as Muslims are celebrating the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and a week which has been named the Unity Week.

Today’s Friday Prayers also hosted a number of foreign Muslim scholars who are in Tehran to participate in the 35th International Conference on Islamic Unity. Haj Ali Akbari also gave an Arabic speech to address the guests.

"The most important issue for the Islamic Ummah is the unity of souls, hearts and thoughts, which is interpreted as the brotherhood,” he said. The God Almighty has built this relationship and is asking the Ummah to maintain it by showing patience, tolerance, love, and friendship, he said, adding, “Considering enemies’ plots to change the Islamic Ummah, the reason that Prophet (PBUH) and Quran stress on unity becomes more clear.”

The Islamic Republic of Iran, since its establishment, has put the issue of unity on top agenda and can be considered the flag bearer of this movement, added the cleric.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Haj Ali Akbari pointed to some of the developments in the past 20 months, naming the US escape from Afghanistan as one of the latest instance of US failures in the region.

He also pointed to the Sword of Quds operation against the Zionist regime as well as the failure of the so-called Arab NATO in the face of Yemen. “Of course this Hebrew-Arab-Western triangle will not abandon sedition as the movements of Zionists in our northern borders, developments in Lebanon, and recent blasts in two Friday prayers in Afghanistan show the continued presence of the Arrogance by the evil Daesh.”
