It was held in Beirut on Thursday with the participation of Lebanese, Palestinian, Bahraini and Saudi personalities, al-Alam news network reported.
They condemned the death sentence handed down to the cleric by a Saudi court and accused the Saudi government of exploiting religious issues for political ends.
The participants underlined that the unjust ruling must be annulled because it has no basis in the teachings of the Quran and Sunnah.
Sheikh Maher Hamoud, secretary general of the Resistance Scholars Association, was one of the participants in the gathering who stressed that the court ruling was an instance of misusing religious texts and tenets.
Sheikh Nimr was sentenced to death last week by the Specialized Criminal Court in the Saudi capital, Riyadh. In reaction to the sentence, people took to streets in the city of Qatif in Eastern Province to condemn the move.
Amnesty International has called the death sentence “appalling,” saying the verdict should be quashed.
Nimr was given the death sentence on charges of disturbing the kingdom's security and making anti-government speeches.
He is the Imam of al-Awamiyya Mosque in Qatif and has spent most of his two-year detention in solitary confinement at the al-Ha’ir prison in Riyadh, according to Amnesty International.
