Seyed Mohammad Kabir Heydari, who is representing his country at the 32nd edition of Iran’s International Quran Competition, added that he was surprised to see Iranian president attend the opening session of the competition and that it signified the importance the Iranian government attaches to Quranic programs.
Heydari said he is honored to participate in Iran’s international Quranic event.
The Afghan Qari further referred to his Quranic activities, saying that, encouraged by his parents, he started learning the Quran at an early age.
He said there are many Quranic circles in Afghanistan and a Quran competition is held annually among the students of these circles.
“I came first in the competition this year and was selected to represent my country in Iran’s Quran contest,” he stated.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Heydari said he likes Quran recitations by Egyptian masters and that he has been inspired by the beautiful recitations of Master Shahat Muhammad Anwar.
The 32nd edition of Iran’s International Quran Competition kicked off here in Tehran on Friday, May 15, in a ceremony attended by high-ranking officials, including Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.
Some 120 Quran reciters and memorizers from 75 countries will compete in the two categories of the contest for seven days.
