Attending a Quran TV program on Friday, Mahdi Qarasheikhlu, head of the Dar-ol-Quran Organization, said Quranic activities have been high on the agenda of the Establishment since 1979 and especially over the past three decades.
Referring to the accomplishments in this field, he said presence of Iranian Quran activists in international arenas, especially Quran competitions, has grown significantly.
“Before the revolution, we had only won two ranks in international Quran contests whereas the number rose to 180 since 1979,” he stated.
No other Islamic country has such a record in international Quran competitions, he noted.
Qarasheikhlu also highlighted the rising number of those memorizing the Quran, saying that today there are thousands of Quran memorizers of different ages in the country.
Another development in the Quranic field has been the introduction of a special mechanism for printing the Quran, he said, adding that more than 150 million copies of the Holy Book have been printed in the country over the past 40 years.
Iranians toppled the US-backed Pahlavi monarchy in 1979, ending 2,500 years of monarchic rule in the country.
The Islamic Revolution, led by Imam Khomeini (RA), established a new political system; a republic based on Islamic values and democracy.
