TEHRAN (IQNA) – The top participants in Iran’s national Quran memorization examination received cash prizes, an official said.

Abdol Hadi Feqhizadeh, the Quran and Etrat deputy of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, said 1,800 memorizers of the Quran were given the awards.

The 18th edition of the annual examination was held across the country in January.

Feqhizadeh said the cash prizes were awarded on the anniversary of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei’s speech in which the Leader stressed training ten million Quran memorizers in the country,

Ayatollah Khamenei said in a speech in 2011 that the society should take a direction so that at least 10 million people learn the Holy Quran by heart.

Hence, related Quranic bodies in the country devised a plan, called National Quran Memorization Plan, aimed at promoting memorization of the Holy Book and training 10 million memorizers in a few years.

Feqhizadeh said the Quran and Etrat Deputy of the Culture Ministry has made extensive efforts over the past years through different programs and by supporting Quranic institutes to contribute to the plan.
