Abdul Kareem al-Ansari, the organization’s secretary general, underlined the importance of massive participation in the rallies, Al-Alam reported.

He said the International Quds Day is an occasion for demonstrating that human conscience is alive in the face of Zionist occupiers.

Al-Ansari added that like previous years, rallies marking the day will be organized in various cities of Iraq, including in Baghdad.

People from different walks of life as well as Islamic resistance groups, political and military officials and Shia and Sunni scholars are expected to take part in the rallies, he went on to say.

The International Quds Day is a legacy of the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, who designated the day in solidarity with Palestinians.

Since the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran, the International Quds Day has been held worldwide on the last Friday of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.

This year, the International Quds Day falls on Friday, April 29.
