IQNA – The General Authority for the Care of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque is gearing up to host approximately 90,000 daily worshipers and fasting individuals on the roof of the revered sanctuary in Medina during the holy month of Ramadan.

Covering a vast expanse of about 67,000 square meters, the mosque’s roof offers a serene environment for worship, accessible via 24 staircases located near the mosque entrances. To ensure smooth flow of movement before and after prayers, six escalators have been installed to alleviate congestion during high-traffic periods, Saudi media outlets reported on Tuesday.

The preparation work is carried out by the staff of the General Authority in collaboration with charitable and volunteer organizations. The preparations encompass cleaning and sterilizing the mosque’s surface, fumigation, spreading out 5,000 prayer rugs, and arranging designated spaces for iftar.

In addition, meals, Zamzam water, and over 20,000 copies of the Quran are being distributed to aid the fasting and praying individuals. Guidance and direction services are also being offered, with the iftar preparations beginning at the Maghrib call to prayer, ensuring that the rooftop is fully ready for worshippers before iftar and for the following Isha and Taraweeh prayers.

The rooftop’s lighting, distinguished by warm yellow tones, creates a unique atmosphere that enhances the soft glow of white lights illuminating the mosque’s external courtyards and the brilliance radiating from its 10 minarets.
